Tianjin sideboards come from the port city of Tianjin & surrounding areas in North China. The simple design originated during the Ming dynasty.

This Chinese sideboard is made mainly from catalpa wood with pine side panels. Usually they are made from either elm, oak or catalpa. We chose this sideboard for it's classic style and original brass. It is more unusual as most Tianjin cabinets have circular brass whereas this sideboard has rectangular brass and handles.

These cabinets were used for storage & also as altar cabinets for family ancestor worship. It dates from the 19th century.
